Welcome Message

Hi, Welcome to the Infocomm Learning Community (iLC) wiki at HCI. Over here, besides the subject contents, you can participate in discussion boards with the teacher-facilitator and/or your other peers to clarify questions and resolve challenges faced on various subject matters. Learning infocomm subjects can be really fun and easy with the community. As a selfless individual, you can contribute your understanding on the subject matters and share with the rest of the learning community under the "Classroom", "Helpdesk" and "Gallery" navigations. You can post and find many useful references such as web links, podcasts and vodcasts on some of the subject topics. If you are a student with Mr. Kent, you should be already enrolled in this wiki and will be able to participate in the discussions and content contributions. Hope you will have an interesting and interactive wiki learning experience in infocomm.

The Constructivist Pedagogy
iLC is guided by a particular philosophy of learning - based on the constructivist learning approach whereby learners learn by constructing their own, new and prior knowledge on the subject matters and with their peers. Social Constructivism extends the above idea into a social group constructing things for one another, collaboratively creating a small culture of shared artifacts with shared meanings (http://docs.moodle.org/en/Philosophy).

Information Literacy
As some of the knowledge content is contributed by the students, information literacy is very important. Students are to be responsible for their wiki inputs and changes made in the wiki content. For example, one should not erase any existing content purposely, or include any inappropriate contents not relevant to the subject matters.

"Information literacy is knowing when and why you need information, where to find it, and how to evaluate, use and communicate it in an ethical manner." (http://www.informationliteracy.org.uk/Information_literacy.aspx)
